The Chainsmokers Gets Criticized For Holding Crowded Gig Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The Chainsmokers performed at a Hamptons drive-concert for charity amid the threatening coronavirus pandemic, and they are predictably getting criticized by internet users.
The charity show was priced from US$1,250 to US$25,000 to benefit various nonprofit organizations including No Kid Hungry, Southampton Fresh Air Home, and the Children’s Medical Fund of New York.
Though the gig had temperature checks and issued face masks and hand sanitizer, videos from the event showed the audience without face masks. There was also a lack of social distancing between themselves at the concert.
“The Chainsmokers [are] paving the way for 3,000 new hospitalizations. This is straight up irresponsible,” one Twitter user scoffed.
Another user joked, “people expecting The Chainsmokers to enforce social distancing has never heard Closer, which is a song about stealing mattresses from roommates, biting shoulder tattoos, and listening to Blink-182. They don’t follow rules. Sorry, it’s in the song.”
