Apple Confirms This Year’s Flagship iPhone Launch Will Be Late

Apple fans have been able to roughly tell when the company would hold its iPhone keynotes since 2011, the year Tim Cook took over as CEO. Since then, it has remained true to a September schedule. However, as the coronavirus swept in and tossed the world into new unprecedented norms, even the ever-cautious Cupertino tech giant was rocked to the core.
The giant curveball fuelled speculations early this year that, for once, Apple would not be able to stick to its schedule. The company finally confirmed this during its Q3 earnings call on Thursday.
While the iPhone 11 lineup was announced in late September, Apple’s senior vice president and chief financial officer Luca Maestri revealed that “supply [will] be available a few weeks later” for the 2020 range.
This points at an October unveiling for the iPhone 12 lineup and new anticipated iPad models.
Maestri also said that Apple will skip out on revenue forecasts for the next quarter, citing “the uncertainty around the world in the near term.”
Tech leakers are almost certain, though, that the delayed launch will bring a fourth iPhone size as opposed to the usual three. Design leaks, and even Apple’s iOS 14 code, have suggested 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch variants for the mid-tier iPhone 12, while the premium iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will measure at 6.1 and 6.7 inches respectively.
