Chipotle ensures you ’avo guac and wear it too with its new responsibly-sourced clothing and accessory line that is colored in a unique dye of leftover avocado pits.
The Chipotle Goods line encompasses avocado-dyed tees, tote bags and sweatshirts, with threads supplied by organic cotton farmers, along with accessories like phone cases and reusable lunch bags that are inspired by Chipotle’s packaging and ingredients. Garments are size-inclusive and are designed to be unisex, too.
The company explained in a press release that, being recognized for its six-ingredient guacamole, its restaurants are left with almost 300 million avocado pits each year. To reduce food waste, it is repurposing the pits by soaking them in water and turning them into a sustainable, plant-based ink to color its new apparel.
“Each unique piece from the avo-dyed collection requires five avocado pits, equivalent to five orders of guac, depending upon the season and size of the fruit,” Chipotle described.
All profits made from the Chipotle Goods line will be donated to organizations advocating sustainable efforts in fashion or farming.
The collection will be available to Chipotle rewards members from 4 August through an access code sent to their email addresses, proving to nearly 15 million fans that their obsession for avocados doesn’t have to be harmful.
