President Donald Trump recently shared posts on Twitter and Facebook featuring a
Fox News interview clip of him falsely claiming that children are “almost immune” to
COVID-19.
According to the Centers for Disease and Control (CDC), children do not appear to be at higher risk of COVID-19 infections in comparison to adults. However, there have been cases of children contracting the virus, so the CDC recommends both children and adults to follow the same social-distancing prevention measures.
Immediately, Twitter hid the tweet as it was violating the platform’s rules of
COVID-19 misinformation. Similarly, Facebook took down an identical post for the same reason.
The Twitter account of Trump’s campaign also shared the tweet, which has since been taken down after the social network suspended the page.
Twitter spokeswoman Liz Kelley informed
The Washington Post that the post violated Twitter’s rules on COVID-19 misinformation. “The account owner will be required to remove the tweet before they can tweet again,” Kelley said.
Though the post was removed from
Trump’s campaign page, no actions were taken on Trump’s own account.
