Amazon Sparks Outrage Over Shoe Listing Described With The N-Word

Amazon‘s website featured a listing of an Oxford shoe that described its brown color with the N-word.
The UK Labor Party official David Lammy spotted the advert while browsing the website, and immediately aired his displeasure on Twitter. “Just buying brown brogues tonight leads to this racist microaggression. Is it 2020 or 1720? Please @amazon take it down,” his tweet read.
Lammy also included a screenshot of the ‘Formal Oxford’ advert by British fashion company Floren. The foul description also included a bunch of grammatical mistakes, hinting that it could be posted by an online troll.
A representative of Amazon told CNN that the product is no longer available, and that sellers who do not follow the company’s guidelines can have their accounts removed.
Lammy thanked Amazon for its prompt action but questioned the company’s reviewing systems as offensive slurs should not be advertised in the first place.
Thank you @amazon for taking this down now but given the item has been on sale since March what systems do you have in place for reviewing descriptions and not allowing offensive terms to be posted in the first place? This is not the first time.
