UK’s First Socially-Distanced Concert Has A Remedy To Bringing Back Festivals

The UK just held its first-ever socially-distanced concert on 11 August 2020. Around 2,500 fans were seated separately in 500 metal platforms, placed around six feet apart, to watch rock musician Sam Fender perform live.
The concert took place at Newcastle’s popup Virgin Money Unity Arena, dubbed as the country’s “first socially-distanced music venue” since the coronavirus pandemic.
Each platform could fit five people with a table, chairs and a fridge, according to the Belfast Telegraph. Concertgoers of each platform were required to arrive in the same car.
The venue will soon play host to Two Door Cinema Club’s upcoming concert on 15 August 2020, with tickets being priced at £37.50 (US$49) per head and an additional booking charge of £20 (US$26) per party. Fans can also preorder drinks and collect them from the venue.
Social media users shared photos from Fender’s concert, which showed fans seated separately within the steel platforms in the outdoor space. Take a look at the images below.
