Epic Games, the video game developer behind gaming sensation Fortnite has wasted no time in criticizing Apple after the tech giant removed the game from its App Store.
It was revealed that Fortnite had been removed off the App Store after it implemented an in-app payment system that bypassed Apple’s standard 30 percent fee on in-app purchases. This move led to Apple pulling the game from its store.
Epic Games has revealed that it is suing Apple in a civil antitrust lawsuit, accusing it of “unlawfully maintaining monopoly power” but it didn’t stop there. Epic Games went on and parodied one of Apple’s famous ads in a new short clip titled Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite.
Epic Games positions Apple as a cruel corporate entity, shouting from a screen and demands obedience from the black-and-white crowd. A woman in color then steps forward and throw a Fortnite axe at the screen, shattering it. “Epic Games has defied the App Store Monopoly. In retaliation, Apple is blocking Fortnite from a billion devices,” the ad writes. “Join the fight to stop 2020 from becoming ‘1984’.”
