Kanye West Envisions Designing A ‘Christian’ TikTok Called ‘Jesus Tok’

Kanye West’s ideas are the polar opposite of conventional. From naming his presidential election party The Birthday Party to designing micro slippers, YEEZY “Crocs,”, “T-rex skull” sneakers as well as inexplicable headband-sunglasses, it almost seems as if nothing he does can astonish people anymore. But the momentum of surprise is far from over.
Having just played around with the TikTok app, the rapper and YEEZY founder had an epiphany that could even be considered by some as a higher calling. He now wants to co-design a “Christian” version of TikTok with the ByteDance-owned app monitored by the community.
Taking to Twitter, West proclaimed, “A vision just came to me… JESUS TOK. I was watching TikTok with my daughter and, as a Christian father, I was disturbed by a lot of the content, but I completely loved the technology.”
West did not specify which areas of the app he was “disturbed” by, but Input Mag surmises he could have meant some of the videos he discovered in TikTok’s ‘For You’ algorithm.
He later propositioned to “collaborate” with the could-be banned app to “make a Christian-monitored version that feels safe for young children and the world,” before ending his informal pitch with, “in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
In his defense, TikTok has been at the receiving end of controversy for some time now. Thanks to an addition in Apple’s iOS software, users discovered that the app—among several others—had been accessing clipboard data. Leaked documents of how its algorithm works also suggest it allegedly discriminated against “less attractive” people and homes, thus boosting videos of users and backdrops that closely match its guidelines for beauty. This wouldn’t be the sort of app a father would want his young daughter to get too involved with.
