Some Uber Riders To Send Selfies In Face Masks Before Booking Their Trips

Ride-sharing service Uber previously made it a requirement for drivers to take selfies to confirm that they are wearing a face covering before picking up riders. Now, the company’s new policy expects the same from riders before booking their rides.
In a statement posted on Tuesday, Uber stated that riders who have been previously reported by a driver for not wearing a face mask will be required to take a selfie with a covering on in order to book their next ride.
Uber also announced the new rule on Twitter. “Wearing a mask helps protect each other, that’s why we’re asking riders to verify they are wearing a mask by taking a selfie, just like their driver,” the post read.
The new policy for passengers to verify mask-wearing will be put in place in the US and Canada by the end of September, before making its way to other countries with Uber support.
The rule is in line with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s advice on mask-wearing policies for businesses and services to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
