Lucasfilm Previews First Look At Younger Yoda For Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Series

Baby not-Yoda, more accurately known as The Child, will have his thunder stolen for a bit. Lucasfilm has unveiled early images of a younger, 700-year-old Yoda for its forthcoming published format series, Star Wars: The High Republic.
The stories, planned to be issued by various publishers and authors in a number of formats—like children’s books, comics, and adult novels—will take place some 200 years before Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and will thus introduce never-before-seen characters present long before the Clone Wars.
The younger Yoda, who Lucasfilm art director Troy Alders has revealed to be around seven centuries old, will most especially feature in the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic by Daniel José Older. Fans can now have a first look at the character in illustrations by the official Star Wars website ahead of the project’s debut in 2021.
At this stage, the character appears almost identical to how you would remember Yoda, save for his smoother face, the lack of gray hairs, and more upright posture.
“His age, as far as the way that his hair and face look, is maybe just slightly younger, but fairly close to his look in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” Alders explained. The character design was the brainchild of concept artist Iain McCaig, Disney Publishing illustration manager Jeff R. Thomas, and illustrator Grant Griffin.
Yoda’s species is known for its long lifespan, as evidenced by Baby Yoda, who is still gurgling despite being 50 years old.
