McDonald’s Sues Australia’s Burger King For Launching Big Mac Copycat

McDonald’s is coming for Hungry Jack’s, which is the name that Burger King goes by in Australia, after the latter launched a new Big Jack burger.
McDonald’s has sued Hungry Jack’s for trademark infringement, with its documents claiming that the Big Jack looks “substantially identical with or deceptively similar” to the Big Mac.
McDonald’s has had the Big Mac trademark since 1973, and claimed that its rival is acting in “bad faith” to promote the Big Jack burger.
McDonald’s also believes that the Big Jack “is likely to deceive or cause confusion” due to strikingly similar ingredients to its burger.
The Big Jack features two flame-grilled 100 percent Aussie beef patties, melted cheese, pickles and onions packed between a toasted sesame seed bun, similar to the Big Mac.
The resemblances were pointed out by social media users, with one Twitter user tweeting, “Big Jack = Big Mac! Naughty naughty!”
According to a spokesperson for McDonald’s Australia, the company is “unable to provide any comment at this stage” because Hungry Jack’s hasn’t “served any formal documents.”
McDonald’s is also seeking damages and wants Hungry Jack’s to destroy all promotional material it has been using to market the Big Jack.
