Marina Abramović & Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci Tease Grand Costumes For Her Opera

Burberry’s creative director Riccardo Tisci designed the theatrical costumes for Abramović’s upcoming opera, 7 Deaths of Maria Callas, which will surround America-born Greek soprano, Maria Callas.
Some of the highlighted ensembles include a red matador-inspired outfit with jewelry-embellished cuffs and a white bridal gown with Tisci’s signature laced veil.
The two sat down to share their vision, as well as experience working together for the project, in a video of themselves in separate digital television sets.
“I was obsessed fan of Marina’s at a young age. If you see Marina’s work, you understand my style,” Tisci said about the conceptual artist.
Abramović is set to showcase various elements of performance for the opera, and feature short films starring actor Willem Dafoe in between the segments.
7 Deaths of Maria Callas will take place at the Bavarian State Opera House in Munich on 5 September 2020. It will be also available to stream online on the opera house’s website, as well.
