Neil Buchanan has stepped forward to respond to rumors that claim he is the mysterious street artist Banksy.
The television personality, widely known for being the host of iconic children’s program
Art Attack, was widely speculated to be the elusive artist after a Twitter user’s post about the bizarre theory went viral.
The tweet, which has racked over 2,000 retweets, read, “Just heard that it’s rumored Neil Buchanan is Banksy. If true, it’s the funniest s*it ever. Aintree’s finest.”
“He’s a musician and art has followed in the cities of shows he’s done allegedly. This is straight in the belief without question category,” the tweet further read.
Other social media users recalled Buchanan creating large outdoor pieces on
Art Attack, and some said they would choose to believe the rumor even if there was no substantial evidence.
“Heard the rumor that Banksy is Neil Buchanan and I need no evidence or proof or substance to it, it’s absolutely the only thing I’m choosing to believe this year,” a user tweeted. “Neil Buchanan saying he’s not Banksy seems an awful lot like something Banksy would say,” another wrote.
A representative for Buchanan has released a statement on his
website, revealing that they had been overwhelmed with enquiries from internet users wanting to do some fact-checking.
Denying the suggestion, his team wrote, “Unfortunately this website does not have the infrastructure to answer all these enquiries individually, however we can confirm that there is no truth in the rumor whatsoever.”
“Neil spent lockdown with vulnerable members of his family and is now preparing to launch his new art collection in 2021. Thank you and please stay safe,” it explained.
