Bizarre Show Sees Adults Stripping In Front Of Kids To Promote Body Positivity

A children’s TV show in Denmark is getting adults to pose nude in front of school pupils to promote “body positivity.”
Titled Ultra Strips Down, the show encourages young kids aged 11 to 13 to ask the naked adults various questions they have about the human body. According to New York Times, the move aims to promote “body positivity” and combat “body-shaming.”
Despite the positive attitude and intention towards nudity, it did not sit well with viewers. One politician slammed the show, stating that it is “depraving our children.”
A recent episode placed students from Copenhagen’s Orestad School together with five naked adults. This aims to challenge the perception of “perfect” body types. Questions that were asked were focused on skin and hair, such as “At what age did you grow hair on the lower part of your body?” and “Are you pleased with your private parts?”
The adults answered these questions honestly, giving kids assurance about their own bodies.
Although Denmark is a relatively liberal country, it did attract a fair share of negativity from viewers.
A member of Danish People’s Party, Peter Skaarup, claimed that the program “is far early for children” and it is “depraving them.” Other viewers thought exposing kids to naked adult bodies is “disgusting.”
“Would you please remove that s**t? You’re out in deep water,” an unhappy user commented on the show’s Facebook page. The channel, however, defended the series, stating, “It’s educational TV for kids and families who can have healthy talk about what bodies look like.”
Ultra Strips Down host Jannik Schow also stepped in to defend the controversial series, stating that the aim of it is “educational.” “Perhaps some people are like, ‘Oh, my God, they are combining nakedness and kids’,” she said. “But this has nothing to do with sex, it’s about seeing the body as natural, the way kids do.”
The show requires kids to have parental consent for them to appear in the program, and the producers also check in with them to ensure they are comfortable throughout the program. The adult volunteers are of different shapes, ages, races and genders. Sonya Chakrabarty Geckler, aged 11, admitted feeling “more confident” about her body now.
