Russia Aims To Become The First Nation To Shoot A Film In Space

Earlier this year, it was reported that Hollywood star Tom Cruise was partnering with SpaceX to shoot an action movie in space. However, it looks like Russia is beating them to the punch.
Russian space agency Roscosmos just announced that the country wants to become the first-ever to make a movie in space, and it will be helmed by Yellow, Black and White studio, one of the largest production studios in the nation.
“The plot will include a flight to the International Space Station (ISS) scheduled for autumn 2021 on the Russian Soyuz MS crewed spacecraft,” the statement by Roscosmos read. “The protagonist to fly to the ISS, as well as his backup, will be selected during an open contest.”
Back in May, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine tweeted that Cruise will be working with Elon Musk’s SpaceX in a film shot in space.
“NASA is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the Space Station,” the post read.
Musk replied to the post by saying, “Should be a lot of fun!”
Now, it appears that Russia is aiming to take the first place when it comes to filming in space.
Apart from the upcoming films, Estée Lauder is set to be the first brand to shoot an ad via the International Space Station.
