SXSW Festival Will Take Place Virtually In 2021 Due To COVID-19 Concerns

This year, the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Next year’s event will carry on with a digital experience.
The SXSW festival struggled to hold its physical event this year after reputable companies, including Facebook and Twitter, pulled out of its program. The organizers then teamed up with Amazon to stream films from the festival for a limited time on Prime Video for free.
Now, the festival has announced that it will take place virtually through SXSW Online, which will run from 16 to 20 March 2021.
Organizers state that attendees will still be able to check out film and music screenings, visit virtual exhibitions, and take part in online networking sessions.
“We’re pleased to introduce SXSW Online as part of our program for 2021, and regardless of platform, we will continue to bring together the brightest minds from creative industries worldwide,” Ronald Swenson, CEO and co-founder of SXSW, says in a statement.
