New US Act Passed By The House Is Banning Racial-Based Hair Discrimination

Last week, the US House of Representatives passed the CROWN Act, known as the “Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair” act. It will make racial-based discrimination on hairstyles and texture illegal for employment, housing, and federally-funded programs.
“For far too long, Black women have been penalized for simply existing as themselves—that ends today,” representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota expressed on Twitter. “This passage is long overdue, but an important step forward to combat racial discrimination.”
Now that the CROWN act has been passed by the house, Allure stated that the next move is for the bill to be passed by a majority of the Senate, and then signed into law by the president.
