Actors Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix have welcomed their baby son last month, and he will be reportedly named after Phoenix’s late brother, River.
During the Zurich film festival over the weekend, director Victor Kossakovsky was asked about Phoenix’s role in the film Gunda, which was screened on Sunday. Kossakovsky shared that Joaquin had produced the film to shed light on animal rights.
The filmmaker also divulged that the actor has named his newborn son after his brother River.
River Phoenix was for his roles in My Own Private Idaho, Stand By Me, and Running on Empty. He tragically passed on in 1993 at the age of 23 after a drug overdose at the Viper Room in West Hollywood.
Joaquin Phoenix was 19 at the time, and he was the one who called for an emergency.
The Joker star has been private about the incident until earlier this year, when he publicly spoke about the death of his brother with Anderson Cooper for CBS News’ 60 Minutes.
