A group of students and activists have come together to create a clever AR filter called ‘Trump Against Trump’, which turns Donald Trump’s own campaign signs against him.

The filter is a result of intense research and fact-checking around the president’s activities over a span of five months. The aim is to transform Trump’s campaign signs so that they “tell the truth,” even when they don’t paint him in the best light.

When you hold your phone to one of Trump’s blue signs—which originally read “Trump Pence-Keep America Great!”—the text below will now display various statements, like, “Trump… paid no income taxes in 10 out of the past 15 years. The year he won the presidency, he paid US$750 in income taxes.”

Another hilarious example reads, “Trump… spread rumors that windmills cause cancer.”

The responses are derived from various sources that the filter’s creators have listed in an online spreadsheet. Some of the sources include publications like The Washington Post and the BBC.

The students decided to use “Trump’s marketing tools against itself” after learning that 100 million eligible Americans did not vote in 2016. They expect that by hijacking his signs, people might be able able to learn “how Trump’s reality affects yours.”

Each sign will be transformed based on its location to reflect a fact specific to the state. To learn more about the project, you can head to the Trump Against Trump website.
