White House Gift Shop Debuts $100 ‘Trump Defeats COVID’ Coin

A few days after Donald Trump tested positive for coronavirus, the White House Gift Shop started selling a US$100 coin paying homage to the president defeating the virus. However, Trump is still hospitalized with COVID-19 and has yet to confirm that he is clear of the virus.
The latest coin was designed as part of the website’s ‘Historic Moments in Presidential Series’. Though the website is listed as the White House Gift Shop, it is actually not affiliated with the federal government, meaning it was not authorized by the president or his administration.
According to the Daily Dot, the coin was created by Anthony Giannini, who designed it to represent the president’s supposed nature.
“Design is suggestive of superhero graphic art because POTUS 45 has created a never-before-seen presidential mythos,” Giannini explained. “I predict, ages hence, myths will abound of President Donald J. Trump, akin to the Epic of Gilgamesh.”
Trump is still recovering from COVID-19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at the moment.
The shop was established in 1946 as a benefit fund for police and authorized by Harry Truman, it became the White House Police Benefit Fund and the White House Gift Shop in 1950. It’s not a government agency and in 2016 it was transferred to private hands. https://t.co/dJq2g3GdcU
