Rihanna is being slammed by social media users for using a song featuring sacred Islamic texts as a soundtrack for her Savage x Fenty show.

The video of the event, which saw models dancing around in Savage x Fenty lingerie, was shared on Amazon Prime on 2 October. While the show earned praises for its inclusivity and eye-catching designs, it also sparked fury due to the choice of music.

The controversial song was sped up with dance music, while models danced to it to promote Rihanna’s latest lingerie designs.

Many fans were left outraged after she chose to use the song Doom by producer Coucou Chloe, which features a narration of Islamic Hadith scripture. In Islam, Hadiths are sacred texts from Prophet Muhammad used as guidance by Muslims.

Viewers took to Twitter to voice out their frustrations and urged her to apologize to Muslims.

“What Rihanna did is so disappointing. It’s cultural appropriation and disrespect,” one Twitter user voiced out. “The Hadith has more meaning to it than just background music and to some people it’s very sacred and holy, so I’m very very disappointed.”

Others branded the song choice as an example of cultural appropriation. “This is awful and I thought people understood what cultural appropriation is. I hope they fix this mess they created.”

I hope it's only the music director's fault and not Rihanna's... This is awful and I thought people understood what cultural appropriation is (if it is that in this case) I hope they fix this mess they created

Rihanna is messed up for using a song with a Hadith in it to play at her LINGERIE show. What is up with artists using Islam as an aesthetic?? Have some respect.

As a Muslim, no words can describe how disappointed I am with @rihanna for letting her models dance to hadith!

i can’t let Rihanna have a pass w appropriating Islam like for her first show the models wore a scarf around their heads and it looked like HIJAB and her second show she used a track that remixed a HADITH....why is no one talking about this, my religion is not y’all’s aesthetic
