Vogue Magazine Welcomes Drag Queens To Front Its Covers For The First Time

For the first time in Vogue magazine’s history, drag queens are gracing its prestigious covers. The publication is not celebrating just one, but two drag queens —Pabllo Vittar and Gloria Groove— in Vogue Brazil’s October issue.
In the first cover, Vittar was shot in full Gucci pieces by photographer Hick Duarte. Vittar has established herself as a drag performer with accolades under her belt. She has received multiple trophies from MTV and was even nominated for a Latin Grammy, as well.
“I want, I can, I can do it,” Vittar is translated to have described of the cover. “I always knew I was going to get where I am. It is not wrong for you to love yourself, to take care of yourself. People will have to learn to respect you for who you are.”
The second cover, also shot by Duarte, features Groove in a Gucci ensemble, as well. Groove is hosting Netflix’s latest drag reality show A Queen is Born, which will see the performer transforming up-and-coming drag queens into polished professionals. Groove has also dabbled as an actress and musician.
“I came in the car researching Vogue’s most iconic covers and absorbing the fact that now it is my turn,” Groove said in the feature. “I am living a dream and I am thrilled with the invitation because being here, positions drag queens as fashion icons.”
