Monotype’s Helvetica Clothing Range Will Delight Type Fans & Cyclists Alike

Type foundry Monotype has teamed up with cyclewear brand Milltag for an unprecedented collection.
The duo has unveiled a range of cycling apparel that pays homage to the “world’s best-known and loved” typeface, Helvetica. Expect to see jerseys, bib shorts, mutts and musette bag, all manufactured in bright Swiss Red to honor the typeface’s designers, Max Miedinger and Edouard Hoffman.
Pieces in the collection are displayed with the name “Helvetica” as well as “1957,” the year the typeface was released. The Swiss cross will also be printed across the items to honor its geographical origin. The cyclewear range is made out of high-performance fabrics, giving you a slim-fit cut.
“As a designer, it’s huge honor to wok with probably the most week-known and loved brand in the graphic design industry,” Milltag founder Ed Cowburn said in a statement. “Why couldn’t we have logos of the things we had a true emotional attachment to? Helvetica is one of those things and thankfully Monotype shared our vision to create what effectively is the Helvetica Cycling Club.”
Taking cues from the typeface’s classic design, the collection is described as “graphically clean, modern and simple… a sharp contrast to professional cycling jerseys that are awash with logos,” Cowburn explained.
Monotype’s senior director of creative, James Fooks-Bale, said that Helvetica is “built for both form and function,” similar to the cycling apparel designed by Milltag. This range brings “one of the world’s most popular typefaces to the forefront, providing this limited capsule collection to a new audience of design enthusaists,” he added.
The Helvetica cyclewear range is ready for pre-order now until 25 October.
