Racist Kinder Joy Casting Call For No ‘Monolids’ Vilified By Actor Simu Liu

New York-based casting agency has been slammed after releasing an ad for a Kinder Joy commercial deemed to be racist.
The notice stated that Paladino Casting was looking for Asians who do not have “monolid” and do not have “dots or circles” on their faces. They also need to have “clean, white and pinky” skin.
Other requirements included a Chinese/Korean woman and “almond-shaped eyes, not too down-turned or monolid” for both the actress and the young actor playing her child. Those cast are said to be paid US$500, with shooting beginning on 17 October.
The casting call immediately received backlash for being racist. Actor Simu Liu called out the agency in a tweet, simply writing, “Dear Paladino Casting, F**k you. Signed, A Proudly-Monolidded Asian.”
Paladino Casting immediately apologized after the flurry of criticisms, stating that the notice was from a client. “Posting this as received without pushing back against the language it contained was an inexcusable oversight by all of us here,” the statement read.
“I sincerely apologize to our community of actors for the fact that this was release as it was received,” agency owner Kristen Paladino said.
