McDonald’s UK has proven that the greatest gift of all is being there for each other—and food.
The fast-food chain has partnered with advertising agency Leo Burnett to create a 60-second ad that follows the journey of a young boy who receives his first car from his mother. The clip opens with his mother surprising him with the keys to her old car, and through his reaction, it isn’t quite the car of his dreams.
He drives past a group of friends, who spot him and laugh. Soon, with the feeling of having your first car and spare change, he goes to a Drive-Thru to get some fries to lift his spirits.
He happily drives off, with Westlife’s Flying Without Wings playing on the radio. He heads back home with a heartfelt thank-you, along with some McNuggets, for his mother. The ad ends with the tagline, “Sometimes, a little means a lot.”
Speaking about the ad, McDonald’s UK marketing and food director Steven Howells said, “In a challenging year, little treats and acts of kindness have increased sentimental value. McDonald’s remains a dependable anchor for food quality and value, as well as providing feel good moments for customers. We wanted to show that at McDonald’s you don’t need to spend much to get something that means a lot.”
Leo Burnett’s chief creative officer Chaka Sobhani weighed in, “We hope this campaign shows that it’s always the thought that counts, especially in times like these.
