PrettyLittleThing has been praised by shoppers after it cast a hijab-wearing model to promote its products for the first time.
The online retailer hired influencer Billy Marsal to model its plus-size collection, which features everything from dresses, swimwear, and gym gear to prom dresses.
Marsal shared the exciting news on Twitter, revealing her appearance on the fast-fashion website. Alongside screenshots from the brand, she wrote, “Soooo… that’s me. The first hijabi on PLT! Still so wild to me.” Her tweet received praise from fans and other shoppers, who were impressed with the retailer’s decision on introducing more diversity.
“Not only is she wearing a hijab but she’s plus-size,” a fan tweeted, along with a clapping emoji.
“The love has been so unreal, I’m really happy that I got to be a part of something so big, just being able to represent other modest women and to have that representation is amazing,” she told
Metro.
Marsal said she is proud that PrettyLittleThing is making a huge step to be “inclusive” as it will “encourage other competitors to do the same.”
“It’s nice to have that equal representation because not only am I a modest dresser, I’m also Black and plus-size so a lot of girls can relate to me in one aspect or the other,” she continued. “Little girls will grow up feeling comfortable and stylish knowing huge brands like PLT are including them and their potential style.”
PrettyLittleThing’s Modest Clothing Edit line is a new section of the site, following a successful debut in the Middle East.
