Tampax Has Customers Divided Over Post Claiming Not Only Women Get Periods

Tampon company Tampax is getting criticized over its new tweet asserting that “not all people with periods are women.”
In support of transgender people, the company tweeted, “Fact: Not all women have periods. Also a fact: Not all people with periods are women. Let’s celebrate the diversity of all people who bleed. #periodtruths #transisbeautiful.”
This message, however, angered several women online as they claimed the company was “erasing” women. “I’m genuinely interested to know who at Tampax thought it might be a good idea to gamble your entire client base (Biological Women) against this anti-factual and anti-woman, virtue vomit,” an appalled Twitter user wrote.
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan also criticized the ad and called it “women-phobic.”
“At what point does this ridiculous virtue-signalling nonsense—which exposes trans people to horrible-mockery—constitute ‘women-phobic’ behavior? Asking for several billion women,” he tweeted.
Others, however, praised the company for its inclusivity of trans and non-binary people.
“Thank you, people behind Tampax, for your inclusive language. There’s a lot of hate in the comments but know there are people who see and appreciate it. It’s such a small gesture and hurts literally no one,” a Twitter user chimed in to defend the ad. Another user commented that “the transphobia is these replies is actually disgusting.”
Pro-trans group and charity Mermaids told Metro that it hopes to see many more brands following in the footsteps of Tampax. A representative from the charity said, “Tampax’s use of inclusive language today has given a much-needed platform to the diversity around menstruation that exists, and we hope to see more in the future.”
