Apple Warns That New iPhone MagSafe Chargers Can Damage Credit Cards & Passports

Apple has cautioned iPhone 12 series users that the new MagSafe magnetic chargers could bring some issues and risks to their belongings, and must be handled with care.
In a document posted on Apple’s support page, Apple requested that users remove any wallet accessories at the back of their phones before using the new MagSafe charger. The contact can damage any credit card, passport, work badge or anything that has a radio chip or magnetic strip, Apple said.
“Before you place your iPhone on your MagSafe charger, make sure that no objects (like credit cards, hotel key cards, or transit cards) or debris are between them. If your device has a metal case or if it’s very thick, remove it. Also remove iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe,” Apple stated in its support document.
Apple also warned that there is a possibility the MagSafe can get too warm while you are charging your phone. In the event that this happens, the phone’s software will automatically limit the charging to only 80 percent and resume when the temperature cools down.
According to ZDNet, users should place the charging pad on a hard surface and away from direct sunlight to avoid warming up the phone.
