Microsoft Releases Free App For Anyone To Create Custom AI Models Without Code

Whether or not you’re ready for it, machine learning will become more mainstream in the future. The good news is that Microsoft is trying to make this an achievable skill for all, and has introduced a program where you can build your own models without any coding experience.
The new app, Lobe, is a free desktop software for Windows and Mac that lets you train a custom machine learning model without writing any code, and then export it into your app.
Microsoft has just previewed the software, and at present, it seems to only be able to generate image classification tools.
That’s not to say there’s not much to do on Lobe—a series of examples by Microsoft shows that the sky’s the limit with image classification. You can train your custom AI to recognize facial expressions so people can send emoji using their faces in your app, teach the model to identify different species of plants to look out for poisonous ones, create a program that monitors if people’s masks are put on properly, and so on.
Microsoft’s teaser video also demonstrates how you can design an app that reminds you to drink water at various intervals simply by importing some photos into Lobe and labeling them.
From there, the software “automatically trains a custom machine learning model that can be shipped in your app,” Microsoft explains in the Lobe website. The company says you can build this feature in just 10 minutes.
For ease of use, Lobe projects can also be exported in a number of industry-standard formats.
All this is impressive, but the company intends to introduce more models and data types going forward. These include object detection, where Lobe will be able to locate an object within an image, and data classification, in which Lobe can label data in a table by looking at its content.
