Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez helmed the cover of Vanity Fair magazine’s December issue, unveiled just eight days before the 2020 US election.

The congresswoman was a vision in white as she graced the cover in a satiny double-breasted suit by New York-based brand Aliétte. As noted by Refinery29, the choice to wear an all-white ensemble could be deliberate, as she had done the same on the day she was sworn in as a symbol of women’s fight for freedom and “to honor the women who paved the path before me, and for all the women yet to come.”

AOC put on more tailored looks in the other images, including a polka-dotted dress from Wales Bonner, a blue suit by Christopher John Rogers, and a black set from Loewe along with giant color-blocking tassels.

Amid the power suits, her greatest accessory was her magnetism—that, and a red Stila Stay All Day Liquid lipstick. As recounted by Vanity Fair magazine in the cover story, AOC had fired back at Florida Republican Ted Yoho’s bullying in the iconic red. Rep. Ayana Pressley later told you, “You know how I know you showed up to do business? Because you matched your lip with your suit.”

Ocasio-Cortez reflected, “[Pressley] was like, That’s when I knew she didn’t come to play’… I had a little war paint on that day, for sure.”

Her presence might intimidate some, but AOC stressed she is little more than a messenger for all women with her relatable Diamond Line Necklace by handcrafted jewelry line Mejuri, a favorite on Instagram for its sustainability and fairly low prices.

Presenting our December cover star: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez! Two elections in, the congresswoman is still fighting the fight—and she’s as sure as she’s ever been. Now, she opens up about her father’s influence on her political life, the day Ted Yoho lost his shit, and what it means to become @AOC. “I don’t want to be a savior,” she tells V.F. “I want to be a mirror.” Read the cover story now at the link in bio. Her family and close friends call her Sandy. A few, like Rep. Ayanna Pressley, go with “Alex.” But becoming @AOC has vaulted the youngest congresswoman in history into a pantheon of triple-initialed legends—and, alternately, given a handy tagline to the right’s worst nightmare. Etsy greeting cards commodify her face; conservative attack ads depict her as a socialist villainess. “It’s very dehumanizing in both ways, strangely, both the negative and the positive,” she tells V.F. “It’s not an accident that, every cycle, the boogeyman of the Democrats is a woman… A couple of cycles ago, it was Pelosi. Then it was Hillary, and now it’s me.” Read the full December cover story at the link in bio. Story by Michelle Ruiz. Video taken on set of @tylersphotos. Edited by @thats_a_douzy. @AOC’s aspirations are a matter of endless speculation: New York Senate, House leadership, a Cabinet post? Despite the base level of ego required to run for any office, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez seems uncomfortable with the mania about her future—so much so that discussing what lies ahead is one of the few times that the congresswoman seems guarded and cautious about her words: “I don’t know if I’m really going to be staying in the House forever,” she tells V.F. But at the same time, “I don’t want to aspire to a quote-unquote higher position just for the sake of that title or just for the sake of having a different or higher position. I truly make an assessment to see if I can be more effective.” Read the December cover story at the link in bio. Story by Michelle Ruiz. Photograph by @tylersphotos. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez finds power in her iconic red lipstick—Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid in Beso, to be specific. In fact, she notably delivered her political dunk against Ted Yoho in her trademark red. Afterward, Rep. Ayanna Pressley said to her: “‘You know how I know you showed up to do business? Because you matched your lip with your suit,’” Ocasio-Cortez recalls. “[Ayanna] was like, ‘That’s when I knew she didn’t come to play.’” And now, @AOC acknowledges that she had, in fact, come to the floor in bold colors to give herself a little extra confidence. “I had a little war paint on that day, for sure.” Read the cover story at the link in bio.
