This Theater Is Offering Up Rights For Your Ghost To Haunt Its Location

Have you ever sworn to return after you die to haunt someone? Why not use your afterlife more productively?
At the Regent Theatre in Picton, Ontario, you might be able to score a job heightening the cinematic experience by stalking its vicinity as a ghost after you die. In other words, you’ll be pranking others way into the afterlife—talk about #CareerGhouls.
The independent theater itself is experiencing a rebirth of sorts, having just reopened after COVID-19 forced it to shut down for eight months. In a typical year, it can host about 300 events, but the pandemic and new social distancing regulations have made this impossible.
To raise money, it is raffling away the rights for someone to come back as the theater’s official ghost posthumously. Moviegoers can vie for a slot by purchasing a CA$25 (US$19) ticket, which will place them in the running to haunt the establishment one day.
That’s right, never will you need to feed into the stigma of having to rest in peace after death.
Ben Thornton, Chair of the Regent Theatre Foundation Board, told CTV News Ottawa, “All the grand old theaters in the world, in London and New York and Toronto, they all have ghost stories attached to them… so we thought, well, why not here?”
Preferably, the venue will have the privilege of being haunted by a lover of the arts, who would be the board’s ideal employee of the perpetuity. “Someone a bit theatrical,” Thornton described. “Someone to practice their moans and groans. We don’t want to scare the pants off of anybody—but a little bit of a jump in a dark theater, why not?”
