Pepsi Max UK and agency Truant have commissioned rap artists Kamakaze and TrueMendous for Pepsi’s 2020 Christmas spot.
Titled Christmas Refreshed, the ad saw Pepsi shattering old traditions and offering an alternative view this festive season. “Tradition is so cliché,” the rappers declared in the ad.
Throughout the ad, the longstanding Christmas tropes are replaced with other cool alternatives. The sledge is replaced by a soundsystem while the Christmas sweater transformed into a Pepsi jacket.
Kamakaze and TrueMendous also belted out their own rap for the ad, creating a catchy remix for the Christmas season.
According to Pepsi’s UK marketing director Natalie Redford, 2020 has been a challenging year with the coronavirus pandemic. The Christmas season will be celebrated differently so the company hopes its fans will “reimagine and redefine” Christmas in their own way, she continued.
“We wanted to give Christmas a complete refresh and flip traditions on their head with our new campaign. Music has always been at the heart of Pepsi Max and this latest collaboration continues our legacy by creating a platform for two of the UK’s rising talents,” she added.
