Back in February 2017, German magazine Der Spiegel released a jaw-dropping cover of Donald Trump beheading the Statue of Liberty.

The cover saw Trump screaming in anger as he held the statue’s head with a knife covered in blood. The magazine suggested that democracy in the US was in danger under Trump’s administration. “America’s First,” the magazine wrote in its headline.

Der Spiegel has since released a new cover following the announcement of Joe Biden as the projected winner of the US presidential elections.



The illustrated artwork sees Biden, who is wearing a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19, putting back Lady Liberty’s head—suggesting that democracy is being restored. The issue is printed with the headline, “Make America great again,” above Biden’s head.

Both cover illustrations were created by artist Edel Rodriguez.
