YouTube Hits Skip On Its Infamous Yearly Rewind Video For 2020

YouTube has been posting Rewind videos annually to sum up the pivotal moments in the platform over the past year. For 2020, however, YouTube has decided to skip it altogether.
The Rewind clips usually feature creators and viral content that viewers can look back on to celebrate the past year.
However, they get criticized each year, especially with the 2018 version, which many found to be tacky and irrelevant as many fan-favorite creators were sidelined. In 2019, YouTube addressed this by creating a Rewind feature and filling it with the most-liked videos of the year.
Now, the streaming platform has scrapped the whole idea for 2020 because “it doesn’t feel right to carry on.”
“Whether you love it — or only remember 2018 — Rewind was always meant to be a celebration of you. But 2020 has been different,” YouTube explained in a Twitter post. “And it doesn’t feel right to carry on as if it weren’t. So, we’re taking a break from Rewind this year.”
Predictably, many rejoiced over the cancelation of the Rewind video. “YouTube has decided to spare us from another tragedy this year,” one user expressed.
