Google Launches App Where You Get Paid To Take Photos & Complete Tasks For It

Google has launched Task Mate, an app that allows users to earn money for completing certain tasks.
Users will have to fulfill gigs like taking a photo of shop fronts, recording a spoken sentence, or transcribing sentences posted by businesses.
According to a report by 9to5Google, there are two broad divisions of tasks in the platform—sitting or field tasks. Field tasks require you to go out and complete them, while sitting tasks are things you can complete from the comfort of your own home.
According to the app’s description, it works in three basic steps: finding tasks nearby, completing them to begin earning, and cashing out the earnings. DIY Photography notes that while Google pays for the work you do, the pay rate isn’t high. Based on the screenshots, you will earn US$0.20 for recording 10 spoken sentences, and US$0.50 for transcribing 10 lines.
Google, however, has not stated how it will use the data, though 9to5Google notes that it will “help improve mapping services and bring businesses in your local area online.”
The app is currently in beta, and new users will only be able to join if they have the referral codes.
