The Google Pay app has gotten a
major redesign with new features that help its users focus on their personal finances.
The revamped app will allow users to quickly pay friends and businesses, show available deals and offers that can be applied when shopping, and provide insights into the user’s spending habits.
Google Pay has made it easier for you to split bills among your companions through the app. It will display payments that have been completed by each user, so you know who has already paid and who hasn’t.
A useful addition is the ability to redeem any coupons that have been linked to the credit card. Google Pay will also display available deals from brands like Burger King, Etsy, and Target, within the app. All you’ll have to do is tap on an offer and add it to your purchases in-store or online.
Google Pay aims to be a handy app that keeps users informed about their spending habits, and will show a list of their previous transactions as well as offer insights about their purchases. Though the app emphasizes on personalization, Google assures that it will not share any data from users to third parties, or even to the rest of Google, for targeted advertisements.
The tech company has also introduced its upcoming Google Plex account set to launch in 2021. A Plex account is essentially a mobile-first bank account that manages users’ payments and financial activities. The Plex account does not require any fees, overdraft charges, or minimum balances.
Google worked with 11 banks to integrate the new feature into the Google Pay app. Since Plex accounts will be only available next year, in the meantime, you can join the
waitlist to be one of the first few users to apply for an account from Citi or SFCU.
