Verizon Launches Unlimited Cloud Storage Option After Google Photos’ Plan Change

If you’ve been heavily reliant on Google’s free unlimited cloud storage, the sad news is it won’t be completely free for long. The tech giant announced last month that it will be discontinuing the free unlimited Google Photos service from 1 June 2021, and any hi-res images uploaded after that—including content from Google Drive and Gmail—will count against a 15GB data cap.
You’d be surprised to know that reasonable alternatives for cloud storage are scant. In response, Verizon has taken this opportunity to roll out its very own unlimited cloud option.
While Verizon Cloud has existed for awhile, this is the first time it has made an unlimited plan available, according to PetaPixel. Your available choices here now are US$5.99 per month for 600GB, US$14.99 for 2TB, and US$19.99 for unlimited cloud—just a US$5 topup from the mid-tier subscription.
In addition to limitless storage every month, the new plan offers compatibility for file backup in phones and computers, shared storage, and search, across unlimited devices for up to five users. The basic plan just allows phone backup for one user and one device.
Given the sudden decision from Google, it’d probably be more comfortable to use a number of platforms at once. That is, if you can’t live without cloud storage. Here are some other alternatives.
