MySpace Gets Revived In ‘SpaceHey’, A Fully Functional Clone Of The Social Site

For those missing the slow personal touch of online platforms like MySpace, the latest site to join the scene won’t disappoint. Here’s why: SpaceHey is an unmistakable clone of the OG social network—and yes, you even get your own custom CSS- and HTML-supported profile.
The new website was created by 18-year-old student developer An from Germany, who interestingly never owned a MySpace account. In fact, he was only a few years old during the prime of the now-defunct online community, Fast Company learns. Despite not having firsthand experience with the original website, An said he has heard a lot about MySpace from his older friends.
An in-depth recreation from records in the Internet Archive and screenshots, SpaceHey resuscitates all the things you miss about MySpace, from its simple design with the Verdana typeface to its functionality. You can start a profile, make status updates, gather your close friends, create Blog Entries, and once again dabble in primitive web design by personalizing your profile using CSS or HTML.
The young developer is personally fascinated by “old” website design, and said he wanted to bring MySpace’s charm back in this era as “you can’t find something like this kind of social site nowadays anymore,” he told Fast Company.
For good measure, An paid homage to MySpace cofounder Tom Anderson by automatically being on every SpaceHey member’s friends list. To date, he has made over 5,000 online friends on the platform, including Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, Rick Astley, and a “Jean-Michel Basquiat.”
