H&M has taken another step towards reducing global carbon emissions stemmed from the production of clothing with its new Fall/Winter 2020 line.
The new apparel collection features garments made out of recycled waste to extend the lifespan of single-use materials. It will be released as part of H&M’s Conscious arm, which aims to promote sustainability in the fashion industry.
The F/W20 range features innovative and trendy outfits like evening gowns, classic tuxedos, T-shirts, and jacquard jackets. The ensembles were produced from recycled plastics, as well as food crop waste that was transformed into a natural fiber, creating fabrics from sourced wood pulp.
For accessories, the brand designed choker necklaces and earrings from recycled metals, along with a pair of sunglasses crafted from Made of Air, a material partially produced from waste biomass. The shoe collection is made from VEGEA, which is a vegan leather partly assembled from wine byproducts.
The overall aesthetics in the collection sport retro patterns like tapestries and floral wallpaper, as well as flower appliqués and moth motifs to note the cycle of life.
There will be two H&M stores in Stockholm and Berlin that will provide rental service to some of the FW20 pieces. The company highlighted that a few pieces are bound to the rental service, while others are available for purchase.
