Burger King UK has rebranded itself to ‘Burger Queen’ in a bid to support diversity for an English football team.
The fast-food chain previously promoted the men’s soccer team, Stevenage FC, with the
Stevenage challenge, which prompted gamers to play the club on FIFA and share their successes on social media.
Now, Burger King is set to back up the club’s women’s team by altering its logo to express its stance on inclusivity.
To further its support for the women’s team, Burger King has also released a special-edition ‘Burger Queen’ jersey, now available at the Stevenage Football Club
online store.
“After successfully spotlighting the talent of the Stevenage FC men’s team last year, we wanted to do the same for the women’s team in 2020,” Soco Nunez, marketing director at Burger King UK, said in a
press release. “The women’s team faces the same challenges and hurdles as the men’s team and it’s only fair that it receives the same support from our brand with an equal sponsorship.”
The announcement also mentions the enthusiasm Stevenage FC feels with the new collaboration. “We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Burger King and the support that the brand is showing for the women’s team is unmatched,” said Stevenage FC’s CEO Alex Tunbridge. “The sponsorship from Burger King will be used to help grow the women’s program and support the team.”
Jerseys are available in two colorways, the red and white option and the black and yellow jersey.
