Joe Biden & Kamala Harris Share The Spotlight As TIME’s Person Of The Year

The title of TIME’s Person of the Year in 2020 is being shared by president-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris, who now appear on its magazine cover shot by Jason Seiler.
Biden and Harris won the US elections against Donald Trump and Mike Pence on 7 November 2020. The event led Harris to become the country’s first female, first Black, and first South Asian vice-president-elect in US history.
Prior to the reveal, the publication unveiled shortlisted candidates of the title to be: Biden, Trump, frontline healthcare workers, Dr Anthony Fauci, as well as the Movement for Racial Justice. They were all key characters who helped drive conversations amid the elections, coronavirus pandemic, and times of social unrest.
“For changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are TIME’s 2020 Person of the Year,” the publication’s editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal said about the final selection.
