Google Photos’ New AI-Powered Tool Transforms Your 2D Photos Into 3D Animations

Google Photos has released a new feature, called ‘Cinematic Photos’, that transforms your 2D photos into dramatic 3D animations.
The tool uses machine learning to predict the uploaded image’s depth and creates a 3D version of the backdrop. It will animate the photo using a panning effect.
“Cinematic photos help you relive your memories in a way that feels more vivid and realistic — so you feel like you’re transported back to that moment,” Google Photos product manager Jamie Aspinall wrote in the blog post.
‘Cinematic Photos’ will roll out on Google Photos in the next month. It can be switched on and off by changing the settings on your account. Simply tap on your account profile photo, then select Photos settings and tap on Memories. Next, head to Advanced and toggle the on and off buttons for the Cinematic Photos.
