Grimes Unveils New ‘Miss Anthropocene’ Cover Art Of A Magical Sword-Wielding Elf

When Grimes’ Miss Anthropocene was first released, its album art featured a black and pink graphic design that resembled a screenshot of an unfinished digital artwork. The cover art was designed by GMUNK and Ryder Ripps.
Now, Grimes has replaced that piece with another artwork by one of her “favorite artists,” Rupid Leejm.
Grimes explained that she had considered Leejm’s work at first, but decided to go with the cover art by Ripps and GMUNK due to the nearing deadline and pushback from her colleagues. However, she has now decided to change the album art with Leejm’s piece.
In Leejm’s design, a sword-wielding elf can be seen sticking her weapon onto a planet with her cyborg wings wide open behind. The updated cover art will be featured across streaming platforms soon.
“I love what we did [with Ripps] and GMUNK. Not hating on that just wish I’d even kept this as the illustration in the program,” Grimes said about her decision, per Dazed.
It’s clear that there isn’t any bad blood between the artists as Grimes worked with Ripps again for her merchandise collection with Maccarone Gallery.
