Honda Launches ‘Kurumask’, A Coronavirus-Blocking Mask For Your Car

Honda has rolled out a mask for your car.
Dubbed the Kurumask, the special protective gear is an additional layer that goes over existing air filters to keep bacteria and viruses at bay. It aims to take air filtration to a whole new level of safety, which is especially important in the COVID-19 era.
Developed together with the Kitasato Research Center for Environmental Science, the car mask’s surface has thorn-like protrusions at the nanometer level. Although the barbs are too tiny for the human eye, they can trap 99.8 percent of airborne coronavirus droplets in the car within 15 minutes.
The mask also makes use of a zinc phosphate chemical conversion treatment, which is similar to the one used to prevent rust on vehicle bodies. The layer will have to be replaced every year or every 15,000 kilometers (9,320 miles).
According to Honda, the mask would have taken several years to develop, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was created on an accelerated schedule.
Honda said that the Kurumask can only be fitted to one model, the N-Box, and while it is not compatible with all air filters yet, it plans to expand support for more in the lineup.
