UCLA gymnast Nia Dennis’ incredible floor routine celebrating black culture has gone viral online.
Dennis wowed the judges with her impressive moves as she tumbled and danced to songs by Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliot, Tupac and Megan Thee Stallion.
The gymnast gave a shoutout to Los Angeles with the closing song, Tupac’s
California Love, and highlighted Black heritage and culture through Kendrick Lamar’s
DNA. She also paid homage to her father in the dance routine.
“This routine definitely reflects everything that I am today as a woman and, of course, I had to incorporate a lot of parts of my culture,” Dennis told the
Los Angeles Daily News. “I wanted to have a dance party because that’s my personality and of course I had to shout out LA because we out there, UCLA.”
Dennis appeared to be having a blast performing the powerful routine, and scored a 9.950 for her performance. UCLA Gymnastics shared the routine on Twitter with the caption, “This what #blackexcellence looks like. @DennisNia does it again!”
