IKEA Plans to Sell Spare Furniture Parts As Part Of Sustainability Push

IKEA has announced that it is intending to sell spare parts for its products.
Items like sofa legs, covers and arm rests are some of the items the flatpack company wishes to resell, on top of replacement nuts and bolts which it currently provides for free.
With this new initiative, the company aims to combat the idea that its products are easily disposable and encourage customers to use them for long periods of time.
There is currently no firm date on when the items will be launched, as the company is still testing various products, IKEA’s chief sustainability officer, Lena Pripp-Kovac, said.
Pripp-Kovac added that the company expects this to have a “limited” effect on sales for new furniture. The idea is that selling spare parts will make its range of products “more accessible” to the public.
This move is part of the company’s vision to become more “circular.” The strategy currently promotes the reduction of emissions by sourcing more recycled materials and reusing products once customers are done with them.
The brand aims to become “a fully circular and climate positive business by 2030.”
