Hanson Robotics’ Sophia The Robot Is Being Mass-Produced In 2021

When Hanson Robotics’ humanoid Sophia was introduced to the world, and even became the first robot to be granted citizenship, humans had one slice of solace to cling on to: at the very least, she couldn’t multiply. This was true until now—because come this year, robots like Sophia will be duplicated and manufactured for society.
Reuters reports that the company will begin mass-producing Sophia the Robot and three other models. The bots are poised to be available in the market in the first half of 2021.
Fret not, though. Hanson’s robotics are all built to serve the world. The company envisions that now is the ideal time to bring them to the workforce and assist the healthcare, retail, and airline industries.
It helps that they look like humans, too.
“Sophia and Hanson robots are unique by being so human-like,” described David Hanson, the company’s founder and chief executive. “That can be so useful during these times where people are terribly lonely and socially isolated.”
He hopes to make thousands of robots of various sizes available this year. Among them is Grace, a new variation developed for the medical sector.
Sophia the Robot declared during a recent tour at Hanson Robotics’ Hong Kong factory, “Social robots like me can take care of the sick or the elderly. I can help communicate, give therapy sessions, and provide social stimulation, even in difficult situations.”
