Mortgage lender Guaranteed Rate and job portal site Indeed released serious yet hopeful advertisements for the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, they also accidentally used the same stock video footage.

An eagle-eyed viewer spotted similar scenes of a father giving his daughter a piggyback ride in both clips scheduled for the big game.

The footage appeared at 0:28 in the Indeed advertisement about finding a new job.

And at 0:52 in the video by Guaranteed Rate:

The mix-up would be highly unusual for Super Bowl advertising, especially when companies are spending US$5.5 million on 30-second commercials.

According to USA Today, the mishap could be the result of the COVID-19 situation. Indeed told USA Today that its team had to use stock videos due to shooting difficulties during the pandemic.

“One of the productions shots had to be canceled and we were able to fill a specific need through a content house,” Indeed said. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to confirm if other advertisers were able to use this clip, which is only about one second in duration.”

The company added that it will not be changing the clip, as the “spirit [of the advertisement] remains the same.”

Guaranteed Rate’s chief creative officer Charley Wickman told Adweek that the company adopted stock footage to uphold COVID-19 safety procedures. Wickman did not want to jeopardize members of the team, hence the move to use a royalty-free clip licensed from a company called Filmsupply.

How about paying millions of dollars to advertise in the superbowl so they end up using the same video stock. Hope they at least don't put them together! photo by @MusebyClio cc @Adweek @adsoftheworld #SuperBowl #superbowlads pic.twitter.com/GxLcW1rakx
