Disney Fans Are Astonished To Find How Often It Reuses Animations

A TikTok video pointing out similar scenes from Disney’s 1967 The Jungle Book and Christopher Robin from the 1977 film Winnie the Pooh has created quite a buzz online.
TikTok user @Buzzzi_ showed the characters performing the same movements, indicating that the animations have been recycled from one movie to another.
This led to the astonishment of many social media users, though Disney is known to have reused its footage from time to time.
The video has been reposted multiple times on TikTok, with one gaining 3.2 million likes within four days. “Excuse me while I freak out, my entire childhood is in question right now,” TikTok user @colleenlepp said.
Disney has been repurposing its animations for various movie scenes since Dumbo in 1941. A veteran Disney animator, Floyd Norman, who has worked on films like Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book, has revealed the reason for recycling those animations in a YouTube video.
Norman said that this “was probably done to save time and money.” However, he mentioned the practice wasn’t necessarily time- or cost-efficient, and said it would take a lot of work to go through old footage and rework the scenes in new projects. He claimed it would sometimes have been easier to animate them from scratch.
The practice of recycling scenes can also be seen in The Aristocats, which shows work from 101 Dalmations.
A video created by Cartoon Hangovers also shows various recycled Disney scenes, justifying that animators had to painstakingly trace over footages of actual actors to create realistic animations in Disney’s Snow White.
