PETA Fears Disney’s Release Of ‘Cruella’ Movie Will Give Rise To Dog Adoptions

Disney has just released its trailer for Cruella, and it has already received warnings from PETA.
In tweets, the animal rights organization shared its concerns about a possible influx of Dalmatian puppy sales leading up to the film’s release.
The film, which is set in the 1970s, tells the story of 101 Dalmatians’ Cruella de Vil before she becomes a puppy-stealing villain. Cruella is an aspiring fashion designer and discovers a love for Dalmatian prints.
“Nobody shows the cruelty of skinning animals better than Cruella, but PETA’s praise will be on paws until Disney takes steps to stop a repeat of 96s 101 Dalmatians, when shelters were flooded with dogs reportedly discarded by fans who weren’t prepared for puppies to grow up,” PETA tweeted.
“The devil is in the details, and Cruella must remind viewers that animals are individuals—not accessories—and to adopt them,” it continued.
According to PETA, the 1996 cartoon 101 Dalmatians had caused a surge in the number of adoptions for puppies. Unfortunately, they were supposedly returned to shelters once they grew older.
PETA hopes its statement will prevent the same situation from happening again as Cruella gets released this year.
